Two old oaks

Planned stopping and tour of 20 minutes. We continue our tour with a short bus drive to abandoned quarry Trešnjevica, one of the most beautiful geological sites in Croatia, where basaltic vein of ˝Rupnica volcano˝ is visible in the length of several hundreds of meters, infiltrating 300 million years older metamorphic rocks of Papuk. Estimated stop of 10 minutes. Further short bus drive to Djedovica, where we will take a stroll through autochthon beech and fir forest to Natural monument ˝Old oaks˝. Two giant old oaks are about 500 years old and they are one of the oldest living organisms in Slavonia region. We´ll hear the story of former horseback riding trail ˝Reitweg˝, passing just next to the old oaks. Nobility and important members of the society of 19th century were using this riding trail in order to visit count Janković estates. The oak trees with their astonishing size are excellent place to learn something about flora and vegetation of Papuk Nature Park. If the tour continues through the valley of Brzaja stream we´ll hear the story about its canyon, aquatic world of Papuk´s streams and the story of notorious outlaw Čaruga, who rifled through inaccessible parts of Papuk not so long ago.
