RUŽICA TOWN, ORAHOVICA LAKE

Tour plan: Ružica Town and Orahovica lake are one of the most interesting destinations in the Nature Park Papuk. They are located in the vicinity - Ružica Town is situated on a hill above the lake and the city of Orahovica. Nature Park Papuk finished in 2009. construction of the educational path ˝ Ružica Town˝ from Orahovica lake to the medieval town of Ružica. Along the path we have set educational panels with content that explains the natural, geological, cultural and historical sights along the trail.

Ružica castle is one of seven medieval fortified castles within the borders of Papuk Nature Park.
Ružica castle is by far the most beautiful and the best preserved one admired by all our visitors. Here we´ll hear the story about Papuk´s rich cultular and historical heritage since prehistoric times until today. Return to Orahovica lake gives us opportunity for different sport activities ( beach volleyball, swimming, etc.). In the vicinity of Orahovica there are other interesting locations such as the Eastern Orthodox monastery of St. Nicolas, ruins of another medieval castle known as ˝The Old Town˝, lookout Petrov vrh, etc.
On the return to Orahovica city centre it´s possible to visit permanent exhibition of archaeological material from Ružica castle, stroll through the city park and hear the story of water mills on Papuk streams, former ˝Gutman˝ railway, etc.
